A Brief History
In 1936, Charles Partlow was fresh Purdue entomology graduate with a plan: to become Lafayette's first local, professional exterminator. Appreciating that reliability was the backbone of any business endeavor, Partlow named his young company appropriately. As part of their patriotic sacrifice, Lafayette residents would have to do without Partlow's services during World War II while he was off serving the cause as a pilot in Burma. In the late 1940's, Jim Hanstra began working for Reliable while still in school. In 1957, after a stint during the Korean conflict and a short stay in Alaska, Jim returned full time to Reliable. In 1971, the Hanstra family began buying the business. When Jim Hanstra died in 1982 his wife Phyllis and son Bob took over operations of the business and today still serve as the chief officers of Reliable Exterminators.
